WANT TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE? 5 TECHNIQUES THAT WILL HELP YOU OUTRIGHT

It is true that you want to be successful. Presumably you did lots of things that will take you upward. However, you might not have thought of this. YOU NEED TO BE A POLYGLOT; Just knowing a number of languages. If you doubt this, here are things that you can think of.
Imagine you have a degree in teaching sciences; you get to know a job vacancy just with a good match. Unfortunately, the medium of instruction is Spanish and you don't know any single word in Spanish? What can you do? Learning Spanish at the last minute? Posting for the job and risk rejection? Not posting?

Imagine how you could be worried missing this chance. I think you agree with me that the best thing would be to have learnt that Spanish earlier. Do your best to avoid such situations at the very moment. Luck enough, I brought you five simple techniques to help you move forward.

5 Techniques to Learn a New Language
  1. Find a program and stick with it
  2. Set goals and stick on them
  3. Label/name your surrounding in the language
  4. Read news in the language
  5. Seek a conversation partner
Now, let's have a quick exploration of the techniques to make sure be aware of what you need to do.

   1.  Find a Program and Stick With It

In fact, when you are learning something with a direct interaction with someone, an expert, you make it quickly. However, you might be in need of learning a language which you don't know anyone who knows it. Don't quit it. There are still ways to go ahead. Technologies has brought all solutions to the problems we encounter, including educational improvement. Programs like DuolingoMemrise and Busuu can help you become a real polyglot (multilingual). Take a decision to day and opt one of the programs/apps to use. Stick on this selected program and stick on one language first. Be sure to share with us in the comment section what program/app you found helpful.

    2.  Set Goals and Stick on Them

Assuredly, a life with no plans has no direction. With plans, we get able to evaluate and assess our progress in whatever we do or desire to achieve. The same applies to when you want to learn a new language. I remember, when I was learning English, just in Senior five, I had a goal of learning 5 new vocabulary per day. I would do my best to learn such words, to ensure the goal would be achieved. In case of failing, I blamed myself and planned to make up for the following day. This worked. Henceforth, make your own goal depending on your availability, ability to learn and memorize and of course the eager you have to know your selected language. Be sure to share with us in comment section your set goal.

    3.  Label/name Your Surrounding in the Language

Ahh, now that you started knowing a few words in your favorite language, believe in yourself! You're stepping forward. What to do next? Label/name your surrounding in the language. This means, start naming your environment, people surrounding you, tools that you use, places that your move to in the language your are learning. Let's say you are learning Spanish. Now stop saying 'a friend'. Instead, say 'un amigo' if he is a boy, or 'una amiga' if she is a girl; a pen becomes  un bolígrafo, etc. With this technique, you will find yourself familiar with the language and you will feel like you live in the place where the language is spoken. To immediately practice, if you want to learn Spanish, when you start your comment, start Hola instead of Hello.

   4.  Read News in the Language

I am sure you will feel like this technique can't work out. Presumably, you think you can't read news in a language that you have no expertise. Here, I beg to differ. The best thing with this technique is that it will push you forward to learn as many vocabulary as possible. This is on the grounds that when you read news and don't understand what it's about, you consequently want to search the word that impeded you to effectively understand the news. Imagine you are reading news in French and you come across a word "doux" and you don't know what it is. Immediately, you will rush to search and find that this word means "gentle". This will be helping both achieve and exceed your set goal of daily words to learn. And, you will be becoming an expert in your desired language.

   5.  Seek a Conversation Partner

If you already read 6 Things You Should Know Before You Age 30 you know the importance of working along with people who can help you achieve what you want. The same applies to learning a new language. You will need people to talk to in that language, message them and vice-versa. If you are learning a language that you know a colleague of yours who knows it, be closer to them; ensure you speak the language you are learning. Here, allow me to extend my thanks to Elie Dunia Tulinabo a congress man who helped me in learning French through this way. Now, what to do in case you are learning a language that you know none who knows it? Elaborate social media. Seek a friend whom you will be sure she/he speaks this language. Social media profiles will help know. Back to the technique of seeking a program, most programs have pages where users can chart in the same language they are learning. So, if you are learning Chinese using Duolingo, seek other users with the same language, reach out to them and go on chatting in Chinese.

Sure, if you strategically apply these techniques, you will be able to speak, read, write and listen as many languages as you want. There is no age limit on learning a language. Start now! Any technique that you know has worked for you and it is not mentioned here? What is that? How does it work? Glad to learn from you; share with us via comment section.

Merci Beaucoup Jean Paul,
I can see you already speak French. Would you share with the techniques used?
Gilbert,

Languages are best tool to feel this world in its nature. Now I am already quadri-lingual and still learning. Sometime, when people don't have anyone to talk to in that language they give up. They shouldn't because in this techno-based era you can listen to audio from that language, in leisure time they can watch movies from that languages, reading books and join some WhatsApp group that chat mainly through that language you want to learn. In nutshell, reading, listening and speaking is main key to progress.
